Mr. O’Brien brings to MFA Cornerstone Consulting over twenty years of operationally focused CFO/COO experience.  John is accomplished in all facets of business and financial management and has been instrumental in helping organizations streamline operations, increase productivity, raise accountability and support overall corporate goals and objectives.

As part of MFA’s valuation team, John is responsible for performing valuations in accordance with MFA standard processes.  He works with both public and private companies in a wide variety of industries, providing 409A and FAS 123R stock option valuations, gift and estate tax reporting, sale and merger, FAS 141(R)/142 intangible asset valuations, goodwill and asset impairment tests, marital asset distribution, and economic damages/lost profits.  John is well regarded for his ability to expertly guide clients through the entire valuation process, helping them to make informed decisions regarding their complex transactions and strategic issues.

Prior to joining MFA, John was responsible for the financial and administrative functions of a $15 million heavy construction company where he focused on the optimization of core business processes and financial reporting practices as well as gross margin improvement, debt restructuring, vendor relations and long-term strategic planning.  He is accomplished in many facets of financial management including structuring debt, obtaining credit, cash management and tax planning and has been an integral part of corporate turnarounds, acquisitions and divestitures.
